Patio doors

Patio doors due to the opening function can be divided into two main categories:

  • Casement - classic inward opening
  • Sliding - sideways opening

Casement patio doors

Casement patio doors are the most common solution for external patio doors. They can be produce in many different ways depending on prevailing weather conditions and specific user preferences. They are available as singular or double winged with the following variations:

  • with threshold
  • with a low threshold
  • without a threshold

PLEASE NOTE: Each and every patio doors should be equipped with insulation extensions installed under the expansion threshold in order to stabilize the threshold and to eliminate any thermal bridging. A lack of thermal extensions may cause frost to form at the bottom, a bending of the threshold, a malfunction of the door wings or a draft coming from the bottom of the door.

Casement patio doors with 65mm threshold

Usually patio doors are manufactured with a threshold, which gives us a perfect seal, this is especially important in places which are exposed to strong winds and rain. A threshold height depends on the type of the frame the doors are made from which has a minimum height of 65mm. In order to protect the threshold against damage during daily operation it can be equipped with an angular aluminium protective strip.

  • Proper design, installation and placement of the threshold with extention into the floor.

Casement patio doors with a low 20mm threshold

Patio doors with a low threshold are the perfect solution for those who appreciate comfort. The low threshold with a height of only 20mm complies with the requirements of architectural barrier-free buildings, as well as enables comfortable entry and exit. The specially shaped bottom of the threshold allows connecting it to the thermal isolation extension thus providing very good thermal properties as well as an aesthetic appearance to the threshold.

  • Proper design, installation and placement of the threshold with extension into the floor.

Casement patio doors without a threshold - Auto threshold

A Patio door without a threshold completely eliminates any pertruding parts and facilitates a smooth entry and exit. Having the external and internal floor at the same level provides comfort whilst facilitating cleaning. Auto Threshold is a special steel strip with a sliding silicone seal allowing automatic matching with the floor which provides for an even seal of the entire door width.

Sliding Patio Doors

Sliding doors are the best solution for wide exits to the balcony or terrace with a large glazing surface. Their greatest advantage is that they are easy to use, safe and allow unrestricted use of space directly by the door. Sliding doors can be split into three categories:

  • PSK tilt and slide doors with a threshold
  • PSK / R sliding doors with trickle ventilation with a threshold
  • HST lift and slide doors with a threshold

PLEASE NOTE: Each and every patio doors should be equipped with insulation extensions installed under the expansion threshold in order to stabilize the threshold and to eliminate any thermal bridging. A lack of thermal extensions may cause frost to form at the bottom, a bending of the threshold, a malfunction of the door wings or a draft coming from the bottom of the door.

PSK tilt and slide doors with a threshold

PSK tilt and slide doors are a proven solution recognized by many customers especially those involved in the construction of modern family houses. Door construction allows for the implementation of a 2m wide passage in single-sided system; in the double-sided system passage width is increased to 4m with a possibility of 8m glazing. Standard threshold with a minimum height of 65mm guarantees reliability and high integrity especially in places where doors are exposed to strong wind with heavy rainfall. The sliding wing has a tilt function, which means ventilation is facilitated whilst the wing is blocked to restrict its free movement.

PSK / R sliding doors with trickle ventilation with a threshold

A sliding door with trickle ventilation is an innovation that we had seen at the Fair Fensterbau / Frontale 2012 in Nuermberg. This design is based on the well know and already marketed ActivPilot Comfort PADK ferrule, which allows a 6mm gap to be created between a sliding wing and a frame giving possibilities for efficient ventilation. More details to follow soon.

HST lift and slide doors with a threshold

HST lift and slide doors are a perfect solution for those seeking freedom and space in their home as well as value and enhanced comfort. This freedom is achieved thanks to modern technical solutions by which we decide which parts of the door will be open and which do not.

There is also the freedom of choice regarding the low threshold, which can be shaped inside the room within the range of 0 to 36mm. HST doors equal space; The 6m construction span will allow for up to 3m of opening. The large surface area of the glazing appears to enlarge the room and therefor brings much more light into the interior.
